Traveling from Edinburgh Airport – the facts you need to know

There is only one terminal at Edinburgh Airport and all flights depart from there. Check-ins can be found on the ground floor as you enter the airport terminal. You must see your flight ticket for check-in information, but as a general rule, check-in times are as follows:

– You need to get to the airport three hours before a long-haul flight
– Passengers must arrive con 2 hours prior to the European flight.
– Passengers looking for flights in the UK and Northern Ireland must arrive for check-in an hour before take-off.

There are some self-service check-ins at Edinburgh Airport, and getting through them is much faster than standard check-ins because you’ll avoid most queues. Self check-in is available at airport kiosks and online but only for some passengers. Check your flight ticket to see if the airline you are flying with offers self check-in. If offered, after check-in, you can simply take your luggage to the express bag-drop area. Most flights board from Edinburgh Airport around 45 minutes before take-off.

If you are looking for information, there is an unofficial information desk in the international arrivals hall on the ground floor of the terminal building. The left-luggage desk can be found between the check-in and international arrival desks on the ground floor. Change desks are located opposite the unofficial tourist information desk and cash dispensers that take all major cards are found throughout the building. Luggage trolleys and porters are available throughout the terminal building.

Car hire desks are located in the arrivals hall in the UK and there are several restaurants and bars, both before and after security checks. There is a wide range of shops, including duty free, in the main departure hall and flight side. There are public phone booths located at various points throughout the building as well as handicapped access toilets. Wireless internet is available in the restaurants and seating areas.

There is a wide range of parking options available at Edinburgh Airport. Short and long parking spaces are available. To make sure there is available parking space and to ensure you get the best rate deal, you should book before your trip. The airport lounge has been recently renovated and offers passengers a number of facilities including private shower suites and a bar serving complimentary drinks in the Servis Air Executive Lounge. If you are on a business trip there are work desks available along with phones, internet and wifi. There is an entry fee of £12 for the executive and business lounges and children are allowed provided they are over 12 years old.

Edinburgh Airport offers some excellent facilities for children including baby changing facilities, a children’s play area and the executive lounge is also available for families but see details first. Most of the airport’s restaurants are child-friendly and provide dining facilities for children.
